Mentioned in passing one of the more famous cases of English law. One Hogg, being convicted of the capital crime of theft, promptly appealed to the Judge for a reduced sentence on grounds of kinship.

His Honorable Lordship Judge Bacon rejected the appeal, noting that “Hogg becomes not Bacon until it be well hung.”

And of course, a doomed turkey’s lawyer may well have appealed its sentence on grounds of kinship.
