LIGHT PROPELLED SPACECRAFT?

It’s not today’s politics, but it may well be tomorrows. Science fiction fans will remember Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle’s “Mote” series, in which the “Moties” used a push from ground based lasers to boost starships well past escape velocity. Now Space.com says “beamed energy propulsion” is just around the corner. Here’s the link –

And it looks as though it may be much more feasible than the “space elevator.” After all, we have high energy lasers but no one has made a belt that would support 23,000 miles of itself.
