The Obama regime is bragging about the number of new startups during 2009. Of course there were. With actual unemployment somewhere above 17 percent, and the schools about to drop a couple of million newly minted BA’s into the labor market, plus as many more high school grads who will look for a job instead of a student loan, the regime needs something to brag about.
But they have picked the wrong bragging point. There are so many new enterprises because the only way most people can find a job is to make one. And making them they are.
There are new janitorial services, undercutting the established firms prices and eking out a living for the owner/manager/johnitor. There are people who never cut grass in their lives driving a zero-turn mower and swinging a weed eater. People who used to wax their cars on weekends are spending their days begging for work outside the self service car wash.
Inevitably, some of those people will turn to crime, just to have some way to feed their family. And then the fun begins. Defining fun very loosely.
