I ran across this earlier today, but I waited to check the author’s bona fides before I posted.
James Kelley is a former Naval officer, and I am told Mr. Kelley enjoys an excellent reputation in Tucson. That makes it interesting when Kelley says Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik “knows this tragedy lays at his feet and his office.”
Evidently, Dupnik’s office has had plenty of contact with Jared Loughner. Briefly quoting Mr. Kelley’s post:
“Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff’s Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system. It was also suggested that further pressing of charges would be unnecessary and probably cause more problems than it solved as Jared Loughner has a family member that works for Pima County.”
Every word of this is easily verifiable. It is quite within the personality profile of a person like Loughner to make death threats. If in fact Loughner has made threats to Pima Community College staff, radio personalities, and local bloggers, that should be quite easy to verify.
Since Mr. Kelley is a local blogger as well as “politically active supporting conservative causes and serves as a precinct committeeman in the 29th Legislative District for the Pima County Republican party and a State Committeeman for the Arizona GOP,” it is also quite possible he is one Loughner has threatened.
As well as one of those who was told by a Pima County deputy that pressing charges would result in unnecessary trouble for Loughner’s family.
Those are very serious charges. If the Dupnik’s office has covered for Lougner, there should be some changes made. They deserve a full and fair investigation from the State – as well as representatives of the victims families.
