A WWII Medley For The Fourth

Let’s start with Deanna Durbin, a great voice from the 1930’s, singing a song those who had a radio heard at least once a day between 1942 and 1945:

Here is another Deanna Durban song that got a great deal of air play. It would be particularly appropriate today, with the new American attacks in Somalia:

This song was the most popular song of WWII. Allied soldiers sang it, mostly in English as Vera Lynn does here, in Russian, and of course Marlene Deitrich’s German version.

And this upbeat tune was another DJ favorite:

And another uptempo tune from Der Spike! This was a relatively popular tune, but records were hard to find. Rationing, you know!
